YMCC Winner Sasha Parker with Deputy Mayor

The 2025 WMSO Young Musician Concerto Competition attracted 31 competitors with a variety of instruments, aged between 12 and 19. Each competitor provided a video submission of their performance. From these, the adjudicators selected finalists to perform at the final on Sunday 12th October 2025 at St. Piran’s Centre, Maidenhead.

On the finals day, nine young musicians performed an extract from a concerto with a piano accompaniment in front of an audience and the panel of adjudicators.

The adjudicators were Robert Roscoe the Conductor Laureate of the Windsor & Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra, Susie Henwood the leader of the orchestra, and the well-known local pianist Nigel Wilkinson.

First place was awarded to 19-year-old violinist, Sasha Parker, who played the third and fourth movements of the Stravinsky violin concerto. Sasha received an engraved glass trophy, together with a prize of £1,000 and the opportunity to perform a concerto with the Windsor & Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra.

The second prize of £250 was awarded to Reuben Moisey who played the first movement of the Prokofiev piano concerto.

A Special Commendation was awarded to Yume Tomita for her performance of the third movement of the Tchaikovsky violin concerto.

The Deputy Mayor of Windsor & Maidenhead, Councillor Sian Martin, presented the Aubrey Thonger trophy for promising talent, which was awarded to 12-year-old pianist Sergey Druzhinin.

The orchestra’s Chairman, Dr Frances Jones thanked Handel Pianos of Sunningdale for the loan of a beautiful Bechstein piano for the day, and thanked the Louis Baylis Trust, the Princes Trust and the Royal Borough for their support for the competition.
