Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead
The WMSO Young Musicians’ Competition takes place every October at St. Piran’s School, Maidenhead. It is open to young musicians who have reached Grade 8 standard or higher and are aged 19 years or under on the date of the competition and attracts competitors of a high musical standard. The competition is open to players resident in the UK or in one of the Twin towns of Windsor and Maidenhead.
Competitors are required to perform a twelve minute programme consisting of one work or two short works before a panel of three adjudicators. The winner will, if appropriate, be given the opportunity to perform a concerto with Windsor & Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra.
The winner of the 2014 competition was the 19-year-old pianist Dominic Degavino. Second place was awarded to the euphonium player Christopher Brewster. As the prize for winning the competition Dominic played Prokofiev's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the orchestra in March 2016 at Eton School Hall.
