Robert Roscoe

Susie HenwoodRobert Roscoe held the position of Musical Director of the Windsor & Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra for thirty years. A Junior Exhibitioner at the Royal Manchester College of Music, he rose to the position of Head of Woodwind in Berkshire and is particularly known for his work with young people, conducting Reading Youth Orchestra, Berkshire Youth Orchestra and Berkshire Wind Band, taking many groups to National Festivals in the Royal Festival Hall and Royal Albert Hall.

Many young musicians followed Robert here to the Windsor & Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra. Through over 100 concerts with us, mostly given within the Royal Borough but also many further afield in the Borough’s twin towns across Europe, the orchestra has a wealth of happy memories of Robert’s inspiration and guidance.

He has now been appointed WMSO’s Conductor Laureate, a position of honour in public recognition of our appreciation of his outstanding contribution to the life of the orchestra. He remains closely involved with the orchestra, taking wind workshops, conducting when Leon is not available, and representing wind music on the adjudication panel for the Windsor & Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra’s annual Young Musician Concerto Competition.
