RESPIGHI: Pines of Rome
STRAUSS: Horn Concerto No 2
ELGAR: Symphony No 2
Horn: Joel Ashford (WMSO Young Musician 2013)
How would you commemorate a relative, a friend or a place you loved? Devoted to Mozart and to his father’s horn-playing, Strauss wrote concertos. To celebrate his famous uncle, Roy E Disney suggested Fantasia 2000 and used the Pines of Rome for a sequence of flying whales! Elgar’s Second Symphony is dedicated to a king but is actually an outpouring of love for a lady called Alice. Sometimes only music can express what we need to say.
Tickets: £15 (gallery), £12.50 (main hall), £5.00 (student/child), under 12s free
