Robert Roscoe was Musical Director of the Windsor & Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra for thirty years. A Junior Exhibitioner at the Royal Manchester College of Music, he rose to the position of Head of Woodwind at the Berkshire Young Musicians Trust before becoming its Vice-Principal.
He is particularly known for his work with young people, having conducted Reading Youth Orchestra, Berkshire Youth Orchestra and Berkshire Youth Wind Orchestra during that time, and taking many groups to National Festivals in the Royal Festival Hall and the Royal Albert Hall.
Many young musicians followed Robert to WMSO and the orchestra has a host of fond memories from more than 100 concerts performed under his baton.
In recognition of his inspiration and dedication to the orchestra, he has been appointed WMSO’s Conductor Laureate and he remains closely involved with the orchestra. Among his current duties he represents wind and brass music on the adjudication panel for the Windsor & Maidenhead Symphony Orchestra’s annual Young Musician Concerto Competition.
